Aizawl, May 8: Mizoram Chief Secretary Pu Khilli Ram Meena, IAS, chaired a review meeting on Thursday to assess the Civil Defence Mock Drill conducted across the state on May 7. The meeting was held at 11:00 AM in the Chief Secretary’s Conference Room and attended virtually by Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police from all districts.

In his address, the Chief Secretary underscored the importance of disaster preparedness and emphasized the need for coordinated planning to minimize damage during war or major emergencies. He called for the establishment of Advisory Committees at both the state and district levels, the provision of at least two satellite phones per district, the setup of emergency hotlines, and the use of Akashvani (All India Radio) for information dissemination, especially in remote areas.

He also stressed the importance of public awareness on wartime measures such as blackouts, particularly among students, and urged Deputy Commissioners to conduct regular Civil Defence Mock Drills in their respective districts.

Aizawl Deputy Commissioner and Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Er. Lalhriatpuia, IAS, presented a report on the drill conducted in Aizawl. Feedback was also shared by Director General of Police Pu Anil Shukla, IPS, and other officials. It was noted that public participation in the blackout exercise was below expectations.

Deputy Commissioners from various districts also submitted reports on the status of vital installations during the meeting.
