College of Fisheries Hosts Two-Day Technology and Innovation Showcase Ahead of CAU Convocation

Agartala, May 09, 2025: The College of Fisheries, Central Agricultural University (Imphal), Lembucherra commenced a two-day programme on May 9, 2025, featuring a Technology Showcasing-cum-Exhibition, Business Meet and Think-A-Thon on Futuristic Education. The event serves as a curtain-raiser to the University’s Fifth Convocation, scheduled for May 11.

Inaugurated by Anil Kotmire, General Manager of NABARD, the event aims to foster innovation, entrepreneurship, and academic-industry partnerships in agriculture and allied sectors. Dignitaries present included Prof. Indira Sarangthem, Director of Instruction, CAU (Imphal); Prof. Ph. Ranjit Sharma, Director of Extension Education; Dr. L.M. Garnayak, Director of Research; and Prof. A.B. Patel, Dean of the College of Fisheries.

A major highlight of the event is the exhibition, featuring 22 stalls by CAU constituent colleges, ICAR institutes, Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), state departments, private enterprises, and farmer groups. Live demonstrations showcased a blend of traditional and modern innovations, including biochar production, bamboo crafts, fish-based ornaments, and handloom weaving.

Speaking on the occasion, Kotmire praised the exhibitors and emphasized the need for robust market linkages and commercialization strategies. “NABARD remains committed to nurturing innovation and enterprise in the Northeast,” he stated.

Prof. Sharma acknowledged the guidance of CAU Vice-Chancellor Dr. Anupam Mishra and stressed the importance of such platforms for young innovators. Prof. Sarangthem noted that 26 student-led projects from 13 colleges were being presented, covering areas such as agri-services, AI-driven livestock monitoring, and banana fiber-based fashion.

Agripreneur and Guest of Honour Mr. Sudip Majumdar shared insights from his entrepreneurial journey and encouraged students to venture into agri-based enterprises.

Over 200 participants, including students, faculty, scientists, and industry experts, attended the event. Three outstanding student models were selected for awards and will be felicitated during the Convocation on May 11.
