Agartala, May 09, 2025: In a significant security alert, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the Government Railway Police (GRP) on Thursday recovered a cache of weapons from two unclaimed bags found in the general coach of a train arriving at Agartala Railway Station.
According to Assistant Commandant of RPF, BK Sinha, the incident occurred when train number 14620 from Firozpur reached Agartala early in the morning. During a routine inspection, two on-duty RPF personnel noticed two suspicious, unattended bags in a general compartment.
The control room was immediately alerted, and a joint team of RPF and GRP officials rushed to the scene. Upon inspection, eight factory-made pistols and 16 empty magazines were found inside the bags. No ammunition was recovered from the site.
Director General (Intelligence) Anurag Dhankar visited the location shortly after the recovery to assess the situation, Sinha added.
Tapas Das, Officer-in-Charge of the GRP, informed that the train arrived at approximately 4:30 AM, and the suspicious baggage was found around 8:00 AM. “In addition to the firearms, clothes, medicines, and other personal belongings were also recovered. A case has been registered against unidentified individuals,” he said.
Security measures have since been intensified at Agartala Railway Station and surrounding areas. Authorities are currently examining CCTV footage and scrutinizing passenger records in an effort to trace the origin of the bags and identify those responsible.
