The ongoing unrest at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, escalated today as a delegation of agitating students met Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at Raj Bhavan, submitting a memorandum demanding the removal of the institute’s Director.

The student representatives raised a series of grievances, alleging administrative failures and lack of transparency under the current leadership, which they claim have severely affected the academic atmosphere and student welfare at RIMS.

The protests, which have intensified over recent weeks, have included sit-ins, demonstrations, and symbolic protests by students pressing for change.

During the meeting, Governor Bhalla assured the students that their concerns would be taken seriously. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to safeguarding the safety, academic interests, and overall welfare of the student community.

“The issues raised will be reviewed thoroughly in consultation with the relevant authorities,” the Governor reportedly told the delegation, urging students to maintain peace and focus on their studies.

He further assured that appropriate action would follow due process, indicating that the matter is now under active consideration at the highest level.

The RIMS agitation has drawn growing public attention, with student bodies and civil society groups calling for a swift resolution. Despite this, the RIMS administration has yet to release a formal statement addressing the students’ core demands, particularly the call for the Director’s removal.

Meanwhile, classes and clinical activities at RIMS have been partially disrupted due to the ongoing protests. Students have vowed to continue their agitation until tangible action is taken.

The meeting with the Governor is seen as a significant development in the standoff, raising hopes among students for timely intervention and restoration of normalcy on campus.
