Gangtok, May 10: Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang-Golay chaired a high-level meeting at Samman Bhawan on Friday to review the state’s preparedness for any potential emergency. The meeting focused on evaluating the readiness of key departments and ensuring a unified and coordinated response mechanism across the state.
The meeting was attended by top officials, including Chief Secretary R. Telang, Cabinet Secretary V.B. Pathak, Director General of Police Akshay Sachdeva, Political Secretary Jacob Khaling, as well as Heads of Departments and senior district officials from all six districts.
The Chief Minister issued specific directives to enhance preparedness across various sectors:
Power Department: To conduct emergency drills and increase public awareness on blackout scenarios.
Roads & Bridges Department: To maintain critical roads and bridges for emergency access.
Health Department: Ensured that all government hospitals remain fully staffed and equipped, with restrictions on leave for essential medical personnel.
Food & Civil Supplies Department: To ensure adequate stock of essential commodities, including food, fuel, and petroleum.
Police and Security Forces: To increase vigilance at border check-posts and conduct regular drills to maintain law and order.
Land Revenue and Disaster Management Department: To install public warning systems across districts and ensure rapid response from disaster management personnel.
In his address, the Chief Minister reassured the public of the government’s commitment to ensuring safety and security, emphasizing the importance of cooperation and vigilance from all citizens. He urged the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information that could cause unnecessary panic.
