Agartala, May 10, 2025: In a bid to curb rising criminal activities linked to rented accommodations, the Tripura Police has issued a public advisory directing all property owners across the state to verify the identities of their tenants.

According to the advisory, several individuals with criminal backgrounds have been exploiting the anonymity of rented properties in unfamiliar areas to engage in illegal activities. “We have observed a concerning trend where rented houses are being used as safe havens by those with criminal intent,” the police noted in its statement.

To address this threat, the police have urged landlords to fill out a tenant verification form and submit it to their nearest Police Station or Out Post. These forms are readily available at all police units and can also be downloaded from the official Tripura Police website at https://police.tripura.gov.in.

“This is a preventive measure aimed at ensuring public safety and maintaining law and order across the state,” a senior police official said, adding that the cooperation of the public is essential to make the initiative successful.

Authorities also warned that landlords who fail to comply with the verification process may face legal consequences if criminal activity is later traced to their rented premises.

The Tripura Police has called for full public cooperation, stressing that proactive participation from all property owners will contribute to a safer and more secure environment.
