Agartala, May 12, 2025: The Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal hosted its 5th Convocation Ceremony at the College of Fisheries, Lembucherra, with over 1,500 students from 28 states receiving degrees across agriculture and allied sciences. The grand event celebrated academic excellence and national commitment, reinforcing CAU’s role in the development of the Northeastern region.
Degrees were conferred upon students from 13 constituent colleges under CAU, including Doctoral, Postgraduate, and Graduate programs. A total of 33 undergraduate and 20 postgraduate students were awarded University Gold Medals for academic distinction. Additionally, nine outstanding doctoral scholars received the prestigious Akoijam Udhab Singh Memorial Award.
In a unique display of cultural pride, graduates wore traditional attire representing their respective states, combined with the university’s ethnic convocation dress comprising a kurta, pyjama, waistcoat, and uttariya.
Dr. V. Narayanan, Chairman of ISRO and Secretary, Department of Space, graced the occasion as Chief Guest. In his keynote address, he stated, “CAU is building the future of Indian agriculture. I urge all graduates to align their goals with the country’s aspirations. You are valuable assets to our nation’s progress.” Quoting Atal Bihari Vajpayee, he added, “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan, Jai Vigyan” and emphasized India’s growing stature as a global power, praising ISRO’s recent milestones.
Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Pradeep Kumar Joshi presided over the ceremony and conferred the degrees. He lauded the Indian Armed Forces and acknowledged the success of Operation Sindoor. “CAU has become a beacon of natural and organic farming in the Northeast,” he said, urging students to contribute to inclusive and sustainable growth.
Vice Chancellor Dr. Anupam Mishra welcomed attendees and expressed gratitude to Dr. Narayanan. “CAU remains committed to academic distinction and societal impact through research and extension,” he noted, encouraging students to contribute meaningfully during India’s Amritkal.
The event concluded with the National Anthem and a condolence tribute to renowned agricultural scientist Dr. S. Ayyappan, former DG of ICAR, Secretary of DARE, and former Chancellor of CAU, whose contributions were fondly remembered.
The convocation was hailed as a grand success, with dignitaries applauding the organizing efforts of Dean Prof. A. B. Patel and the College of Fisheries, Lembucherra. Established in 1993, CAU Imphal continues to spearhead agricultural education and innovation in India’s Northeast.
