Security forces have arrested three active cadres of two proscribed militant outfits in separate operations across Imphal East and Thoubal districts for their alleged involvement in extortion, police said on Monday.
One of the arrested individuals, identified as RK Johney Singh (25), an active member of the banned People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK), was apprehended on Sunday from Porompat DC Road in Imphal East. Police said Singh was engaged in collecting money from shops, government officials, and various establishments. Nine demand letters were recovered from his possession.
In a separate operation on the same day, security forces arrested Ngangom Rabi Singh, a member of the proscribed KCP (PWG), from Khurai in Imphal East. He was reportedly involved in extorting money from several oil pumps in the Imphal area.
A third militant, identified as Buyamayum Arif Khan (30), also belonging to the KCP (PWG), was arrested on Saturday from Lilong in Thoubal district. According to police, Khan was actively extorting money from a wide range of targets including the general public, brick fields, sawmills, banks, hospitals, schools, colleges, oil pumps, shops, and stone crusher contractors across Thoubal district.
Police said investigations are ongoing.
