Agartala, May 16, 2025: Tension gripped Tripura’s East Phulbari village in North district after a youth from the Muslim community allegedly kept a sacred bull tied at his residence for over a week, triggering outrage among locals.
According to police, the incident came to light after they received a tip-off about the bull being confined. “We received specific information that a man named Moinul Hauq had tied a sacred bull at his house. A team was dispatched immediately, but by the time we reached, the individual had fled,” a senior officer from Churaibari Police Station said. “The bull was found at the premises and has since been rescued and brought to the police station. We are investigating the circumstances,” he added.
Following the police action, agitated villagers gathered and vandalized Hauq’s residence, escalating the tension in the area.
“A police team rushed to the scene and brought the situation under control. Our preliminary probe indicates that the bull might have been kept with the intention of being sold, though we are verifying all angles,” another officer informed.
Authorities have registered a case and launched a detailed investigation into the matter.
