Agartala, May 16, 2025: The Twipra Students’ Federation (TSF), a key constituent of the North East Students’ Organisation (NESO), has demanded the immediate replacement of the current Director of the Tribal Welfare Department with a qualified tribal officer, citing the need for more effective leadership and authentic representation.

In a memorandum submitted to Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma, the TSF emphasized that the department, being solely responsible for the welfare and development of indigenous communities in Tripura, must be led by someone who deeply understands the cultural and socio-economic dynamics of the tribal population.

“There are several capable and experienced tribal officers in the state cadre who possess both administrative competence and grassroots knowledge. Appointing one of them as Director would not only improve the department’s efficiency but also inspire future generations of tribal civil servants,” the memorandum stated.

The student body stressed that such a move would reflect the government’s genuine commitment to tribal empowerment and inclusivity in key decision-making roles.

“This demand is rooted in fairness and justice. We urge the government to act promptly and uphold the spirit of tribal representation in administration,” the TSF leader asserted.
