Assam Rifles, Manipur Police Nab Two with ₹2 Crore Worth Foreign Cigarettes

Agartala, May 21, 2025: Acting on specific intelligence inputs, a joint team of Assam Rifles and Manipur Police conducted a successful operation in Savomphai, Jiribam district, leading to the apprehension of two individuals and the seizure of a large consignment of illegal foreign cigarettes.

During the operation, authorities recovered 98 bags of foreign cigarettes, with each bag containing 1,000 packets. The total estimated value of the contraband stands at approximately Rs 2 crore.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the consignment had been transported by boat from Tipaimukh and was intended to be smuggled into Bangladesh.

Officials noted that the operation highlights the ongoing efforts of Assam Rifles and local law enforcement in curbing smuggling activities. The seizure is being hailed as a significant blow to illegal cross-border trade networks and a reaffirmation of the Assam Rifles’ commitment to counter-smuggling operations in the region.
