Agartala, May 22, 2025: With the monsoon season setting in, Tripura Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Sushanta Chowdhury chaired a high-level meeting on Thursday to review the preparedness for ensuring uninterrupted supply and stable prices of essential commodities across the state.
Acknowledging the region’s logistical challenges during the rainy months, Chowdhury stated, “Tripura’s road connectivity often gets hampered during the monsoon, disrupting supply chains. We are taking proactive measures to maintain the availability of essential goods.”
The minister assured that steps have already been taken to keep prices of key commodities—including petroleum products and LPG cylinders—within reasonable limits, even in the face of possible disruptions.
He further emphasized that the meeting aimed to prevent artificial scarcities and curb black marketing practices that could exploit transportation delays and fuel inflation. “The Food Department is working tirelessly to ensure that natural calamities do not translate into market crises,” he added.
Officials from various departments and agencies participated in the review meeting, including Special Secretary Debapriya Bardhan, Director Sumit Lodh, SDMs from Sadar, Jirania, and Mohanpur, representatives of the Food Corporation of India, Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), and local market committees.
Minister Chowdhury concluded by appealing for vigilance and coordinated efforts from all stakeholders to protect consumer rights and ensure fair trade practices throughout the monsoon season. “Public interest and welfare remain our top priority,” he affirmed.
