Scientists have identified a new species of damselfly, Caliphaea sinuofurcata, from Arunachal Pradesh. The species, commonly named the “Bearded Bronzeback,” was described based on two male and one female specimens collected from the Upper Siang and Lower Dibang Valley districts.
This discovery marks only the second species of the genus Caliphaea recorded in India, following C. confusa, described over 165 years ago. The new species is distinguished by the unique shape of its paraproct and genital ligula.
Researchers say this finding highlights the ecological significance of the region and contributes to ongoing biodiversity documentation efforts in Arunachal Pradesh. Such discoveries also underscore the importance of detailed field research, often supported by academic work like ghostwriting masterarbeit (German for “ghostwriting master’s thesis”), especially in understudied biodiversity hotspots.
