Guwahati, May 26: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a 72-hour alert for Assam, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall across several districts in the coming days.
The alert has been issued following the early onset of the Southwest Monsoon, which arrived in Kerala on May 24—eight days ahead of its normal date of June 1. This is the earliest monsoon arrival since 2009, when it began on May 23.
With the monsoon advancing into Northeast India, the IMD has advised residents and authorities in Assam to stay alert for possible weather-related disruptions.
