Guwahati, Jun 2: Nine-year-old Binita Chetry, who secured third place in the global talent show Britain’s Got Talent, was warmly welcomed by the people of Assam, especially from her home district of Karbi Anglong.
Binita, the first Asian to reach the podium in the competition’s history, was greeted with applause, flowers, and admiration. Prem Tamang, Chairman of the Gorkha Development Council, along with other local leaders, praised her remarkable achievement.
Her father, Amar Chetry, expressed pride, saying, “This achievement is not just for our family but for the entire country. With everyone’s love and support, she has reached a global stage.”
Binita began dancing at age three under her aunt’s guidance and gained recognition through Indian dance shows such as Super Dancer 4 and Dance Deewane Junior. She later trained under choreographer Hardik Rawat in Jaipur and won Dance Icon Season 2, which paved the way for her participation in Britain’s Got Talent.
Reflecting on the experience, Binita said, “The judges, especially Bruno and Simon, gave me very good comments and said they had never seen such a performance before.”
Despite her rising fame, Binita continues to focus on her studies and is currently in the fifth grade. She thanked her family, supporters, and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for their encouragement. “Though voting was limited to London, I received support from around the world,” she said.
Binita plans to keep improving her dance skills and hopes to continue growing as an artist.
