Agartala, June 04, 2025: A cancer patient from South Tripura has received financial support of ₹3,00,000 from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund following the intervention of Member of Parliament and former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb.
The patient Mani Dey (33), daughter of Amar Dey and a resident of Santirbazar in South Tripura district was diagnosed with cancer and prescribed chemotherapy and supportive care at Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai. The treatment cost was estimated at ₹6,00,000.
In a letter dated 28 April 2025, Biplab Kumar Deb wrote to the Prime Minister of India requesting financial assistance for her treatment. He enclosed relevant documents and highlighted the urgency of the matter, urging the PM National Relief Fund to grant the maximum possible aid.
Acting on this request, the Prime Minister’s Office sanctioned ₹3,00,000 on 23 May 2025 to partially cover the treatment expenses. The sanctioned amount has been directly transferred to Tata Memorial Hospital via NEFT/RTGS through the IDFC Bank, New Delhi.
“The sanctioned grant shall be used for the admissible treatment costs, and the hospital is required to initiate the treatment within three months from the date of release,” the PMO letter stated, signed by Pradeep Kumar Srivastava, Under Secretary (Funds).
The support stands as a vital relief for Mani Dey and her family. The letter also confirms that the assistance is valid for up to two years, and strict adherence to the Transplantation of Human Organs Act, 1994 is mandated if applicable.
This act of intervention by Biplab Kumar Deb has brought a ray of hope to the patient battling a life-threatening illness.
