In response to a fresh COVID-19 case in Manipur and a rising number of infections across the country, the Emergency COVID-19 Management Committee of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, convened to assess the institution’s preparedness and implement necessary preventive measures.

As per national health data, active COVID-19 cases in India have crossed 7,154, with three new deaths reported on Thursday. Recognizing the growing threat, the RIMS committee emphasized the need for heightened vigilance and prompt action to prevent further spread of the virus.

To safeguard patients, healthcare personnel, and visitors, RIMS has mandated the wearing of face masks for all individuals showing flu-like symptoms and their attendants within hospital premises. Additionally, all patients and visitors, regardless of symptoms, are strongly encouraged to wear masks while inside the hospital.

The hospital administration has also urged the public to maintain strict hygiene practices, including regular handwashing with soap and water or the use of alcohol-based hand sanitizers.

People experiencing symptoms of Influenza-Like Illness (ILI)—such as fever, cough, sore throat, or fatigue—have been advised to seek medical consultation without delay.

While routine COVID-19 testing will not resume at this stage, RIMS will conduct tests for individuals showing signs of Severe Acute Respiratory Infections (SARI) or when deemed necessary by attending doctors.

Reaffirming its commitment to public health, RIMS stated it will continue adhering to the latest guidelines issued by the State Health Department. The institute stressed that the safety of patients, medical staff, and the wider community remains its highest priority and appealed for public cooperation in following the prescribed safety protocols.
