Agartala, June 12, 2025: In a fresh case of cross-border infiltration, Government Railway Police (GRP) on Wednesday arrested a Bangladeshi youth from Agartala Railway Station who had allegedly entered Tripura by evading border security. In a separate but related operation, police also arrested an Indian tout allegedly involved in facilitating the illegal entry.
According to GRP Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Tapas Das, the arrest was made based on a tip-off received by the police. “We received specific intelligence that a Bangladeshi citizen, who entered the state illegally, was planning to board a train to another state from Agartala Railway Station. Acting on that information, we conducted a raid and detained a suspicious individual for questioning,” said Das.
The detained person identified as 35-year-old Pranjit Roy, reportedly admitted during interrogation that he had crossed the border illegally. “He was planning to travel to Delhi. A specific case has been filed against him, and he will be produced in court tomorrow,” the GRP OC added.
In a separate operation later in the afternoon, the GRP, in collaboration with the Border Security Force (BSF) and Sidhai Police Station, arrested an Indian national suspected of being involved in the infiltration network. The accused has been identified as Debashish Malakar, aged 34.
Tripura has long been witnessing a persistent problem of illegal infiltration from Bangladesh, despite strict vigilance by the BSF. Reports suggest that infiltration through the barbed wire fencing has become a regular occurrence, allegedly with the help of local touts.
