Agartala, June 13, 2025: The nationwide ‘Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan’ launched by the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare on May 29 to promote modern, sustainable and innovative farming practices concluded today with a district-level program in Nalchar under Sepahijala district. The event was jointly organized by the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR).
ARD, Fishiers and SC Welfare minister Sudhangshu Das inaugurated the programme in presence of MLA Kishor Barman, Director of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Dr. Fani Bhushan Jamatia, Sepahijala Zilla Parishad’s Sabhadipati Supriya Das Datta and other dignitaries. The event began with a symbolic tree-watering ceremony followed by farmer interactions and distribution of modern agricultural machinery.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Sudhangshu Das underscored the importance of agriculture in Tripura’s rural economy. “Tripura is fundamentally an agricultural state, and the backbone of our rural economy depends on our farmers. Their contribution is invaluable,” he said.
He also extended gratitude to the state’s Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath. “I thank our Hon’ble Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath for the proactive steps taken in advancing farmers’ welfare. These initiatives are driving real change at the grassroots,” Das noted.
The Minister offered practical advice to farmers and encouraged them to embrace modern techniques for improved yield and sustainability. “This Abhiyan reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a Viksit Bharat through transformative agricultural reform,” he added.
MLA Kishore Barman, in his remarks, sharply criticized the previous Left Front government, alleging historical neglect of farmers’ welfare. “The past governments played politics with farmers’ lives. Today, we are correcting that course,” he said.
The ‘Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan’, now scheduled to be held biennially, aims to ensure food security for India’s 1.45 billion population, improve nutritional access, enhance farmers’ income and promote sustainable use of natural resources.
