The Meghalaya Cabinet has approved the repurposing of 273.41 acres of unutilized land owned by the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) for tourism development projects.

The identified land parcels will be leased to the Tourism Department on a revenue-sharing model to facilitate the implementation of tourism initiatives across the state. Key locations include the IB campus, the stretch from Le-junction to Nongsdier village, areas behind the MeECL School and NHRDC, Block V, and Lumpongdeng Island.

The decision aims to monetize idle government land while enhancing tourism infrastructure and creating new economic opportunities in Meghalaya.
