Agartala, June 13, 2025: Tripura’s former Chief Minister and incumbent Lok Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb today strongly condemned the recent attack and vandalism at the ancestral home of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore, known as “Kacharibari,” in Shahjadpur of Sirajganj district, Bangladesh. The incident targeted the Rabindra Museum has sparked widespread outrage across cultural and political spheres.
Taking to his official Facebook handle, Deb expressed deep anguish over what he called a “heinous attack” on the revered cultural site.
“This will remain a dark chapter in the history of the country’s healthy cultural consciousness, its acquired dignity and the entire human race. Rabindranath Tagore is a name of emotion, regardless of caste, religion, or linguistic differences,” Deb stated.
He lamented that even a place carrying the legacy of the poet who penned Bangladesh’s national anthem was not spared. “The place where the memory of Rabindra, the creator of the country’s national anthem, is intertwined, was not spared from the wrath of some crazy, violent and vengeful people,” he said.
Calling the incident a reflection of “religious intolerance and hatred of minorities,” Deb said that such acts “are constantly embarrassing an entire nation and country in front of the whole world” and warned that these actions were “gradually leading that state to destruction.”
Highlighting the rise of violence in the changing political climate of Bangladesh, Deb called the incident “extremely shameful” and added, “Every day, a black chapter is being written. History is being made.”
“I strongly condemn and deplore this incident,” he concluded.
The statement comes amid mounting concerns over minority rights and cultural preservation in Bangladesh following a series of similar attacks in recent times.
