Agartala, June 13, 2025: The grieving parents of 26-year-old Shariful Miah, whose body was found in an ice-cream freezer in Tripura’s Gandacherra under Dhalai district have demanded the harshest possible punishment for those responsible for his brutal killing. A total of six individuals have been arrested in connection with the murder that has stunned the state.
Shariful, an electrician from the Masjidpara area of Agartala, had been in a relationship with a 20-year-old girl. However, tensions reportedly escalated when her cousin Dibakar Saha also sought a romantic relationship with her eventually leading to a meticulously planned murder, police said.
Shariful’s father Alamgir Miah said BJP state vice president Papia Datta visited their home and extended her condolences. “She assured me of arranging a meeting with Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha. I want to plead with him personally to ensure those who killed my son face exemplary punishment,” he said.
Shariful’s mother, Masuda Begum, speaking through tears, described her son’s last known contact with Dibakar on the night of June 8. “He was lured under the pretext of receiving a gift. I curse those responsible. My son did nothing wrong. He simply loved someone,” she said.
Masuda further alleged that Dibakar Saha, an MBBS graduate from Bangladesh, orchestrated the entire plot to remove Shariful from the equation and gain control over the woman’s property. “He wanted to exploit the girl, who had just lost her father. My son was the only obstacle,” she claimed.
Police investigations revealed that Shariful was murdered in South Indranagar, West Tripura. His body was stuffed into a trolley bag and transported to Gandacherra, where it was hidden in a freezer inside a family-run shop. Authorities believe the motive stemmed from a toxic mix of obsession and greed.
The incident has sparked outrage, with demands for swift justice growing louder across the state.
