Shillong, Jun 14: The Meghalaya High Court has instructed the state government to investigate allegations of a ₹640 crore revenue loss due to the failure to regulate overloaded goods vehicles at 28 weighbridges and the absence of such monitoring systems at key transport locations.

The directive came during the hearing of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by social activist Tennydard M Marak. A division bench comprising Chief Justice IP Mukerji and Justice W Diengdoh noted that the alleged loss of revenue is a matter of serious concern.

The court directed the Principal Secretary of the Transport Department to examine the allegations and submit a counter affidavit by July 5, with a copy to be shared with the petitioner. It also stated that necessary action must be taken if the claims are found to be accurate.
