Agartala, June 17, 2025: In a heartbreaking incident that shocked the residents of Tripura’s Matripalli in Agartala city, three teenage boys drowned in a pond adjacent to the Matripalli Agriculture Office around noon on Tuesday. The victims have been identified as Boby Shukla Das (17), Subham Deb (17) and Subhajit Dey (15).
Soon after the tragedy, Badharghat MLA Mina Rani Sarkar rushed to the spot. She later expressed her grief in a statement shared on her official Facebook page.
“The entire area was plunged into a state of immense grief after losing three people on the same day. I immediately ran after receiving the news and the scene I saw was practically a thunderbolt in my head,” Sarkar wrote.
According to the MLA, fire service personnel and rescue workers were seen retrieving the lifeless bodies of the three boys from the water. “Seeing this heartbreaking scene, the family members and the locals broke down in tears. They practically went crazy with grief,” she said.
The boys were immediately taken to Agartala Government Medical College and GBP Hospital, where doctors declared all three dead on arrival.
Extending her support to the bereaved families, Sarkar added, “I try to console and sympathize with the bereaved families in this difficult time.”
Police personnel are carrying out further investigations into the cause of the drowning.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha has conveyed his deep sorrow over the tragic incident. In a social media post, he expressed, “I am profoundly saddened by the heartbreaking loss of three lives due to drowning in the Matri Palli area of Badarghat, Agartala. My prayers are with the grieving families, hoping they find strength in this difficult time. Additionally, I have directed the administration to take the necessary steps in response to the situation.”
