Agartala, April 22, 2025: In a significant push for infrastructural development in Tripura, Rajya Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb met Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari in Delhi on Monday and reiterated his demand for urgent repair and long-term solutions for several critical road stretches in the state.

Highlighting the dire condition of National Highway NH-8, Deb stressed the need for immediate maintenance and permanent repairs, especially from Churaibari to Panitla. “I had raised these issues with full force in the last session of Parliament. The current condition of NH-8 is not only inconvenient but also dangerous. A permanent solution is the need of the hour,” he said after the meeting.

The MP emphasized four key demands during his discussion with the Union Minister: upgrading the Udaipur–Phulkumari (NH-8) to Amarpur (NH-208) road under the National Highway network; widening the Ranir Bazar Fire Service to Agartala ISBT stretch into a 4-lane road with service lanes; and formally declaring the 148-km Kamalpur–Santirbazar road via Ambasa–Gandachera–Amarpur as a National Highway.

Deb added, “These roads are lifelines for the people of Tripura. Their development will not only boost connectivity but also help in socio-economic progress across the region.”

According to sources, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari acknowledged the urgency of the issues and assured that necessary steps would be taken at the earliest. “Realizing the importance of the proposals, the Hon’ble Minister has promised to look into them and expedite the process,” Deb informed.

The meeting is being seen as a positive move toward addressing long-standing infrastructure concerns in Tripura.
