Guwahati, Apr 22: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, while campaigning for National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidates in Dhemaji and Tinsukia districts, launched a strong criticism against the Congress party. Speaking at a rally in Dhemaji on Monday, Sarma suggested that Congress should change its electoral symbol from the Hand to the Lungi.

Sarma took aim at Congress for its lack of significant contributions during its tenure, questioning their record on key initiatives like free college admissions, Class 10 form fees, and the construction of essential institutions like the Dhemaji Medical College and Engineering College. He accused Congress of focusing on symbolic gestures such as the Lungi, Dhoti, Thread, and Mosquito nets instead of tangible development.

“Our agenda is straightforward — to continue our development work and make every village a model village,” Sarma stated, emphasizing the importance of progress and welfare.

The Chief Minister also reiterated the government’s success in creating 1.5 lakh government jobs in the past four years without any corruption. He vowed to continue ensuring opportunities for the youth without the involvement of bribes.

The panchayat elections in Assam are scheduled for May 2 and May 7, with the vote count set for May 11. More than 1.80 crore voters are expected to participate in the elections across 25,007 polling stations.
