Gangtok, Apr 24: Union Minister for the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER), Jyotiraditya Scindia, held a high-level video conference with Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang to review the state’s ongoing and proposed development plans under the framework of Viksit Bharat@2047.
The discussions focused on key sectors including tourism, organic farming, and infrastructure development. Chief Minister Tamang expressed gratitude for the continued support from the Central Government and appreciated Minister Scindia’s feedback on accelerating inclusive growth across the state.
A major point of discussion was the Vibrant Villages Programme, with the Chief Minister calling for the expeditious preparation of the Detailed Project Report (DPR) to strengthen infrastructure and connectivity in remote areas. The strategic significance of the Chiwabhanjyang corridor for enhancing trade with Eastern Nepal was also highlighted, along with the promotion of homestays to support rural livelihoods and sustainable tourism.
The Chief Minister emphasized the need to maintain development momentum and expand tourism-led growth across all regions. He also underlined the importance of service quality, skilled manpower, and tourism infrastructure to meet the growing demand in the sector.
The meeting was attended by senior officials including MDoNER Secretary Chanchal Kumar, Sikkim Chief Secretary R. Telang, and key departmental heads, who contributed to the deliberations aimed at strengthening Sikkim’s development trajectory as part of the national vision for Viksit Bharat@2047.
