Agartala, April 24, 2025: In a much-anticipated development, 16 donation boxes of the revered Tripura Sundari Maa temple in Gomati district were opened on Thursday morning after those were opened on February 24, 2025.  To the astonishment of officials, the offerings included not just Indian currency, but also US dollars, Kuwaiti dinars, Nepalese rupees and Bangladeshi taka.

A 16-member special team formed by the District Magistrate’s office of Gomati undertook the task of opening and counting the donations. “We began the counting early in the morning, and it is expected to be completed between 7 and 8 pm tonight,” a team member said, while confirming that strict security arrangements have been put in place inside the temple premises to ensure a smooth process.

Speaking about the use of the collected funds, temple authorities stated, “The donations will be utilized for temple maintenance, including renovations, religious rituals, and other spiritual activities.” The temple, one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, draws thousands of devotees every year.

Highlighting the temple’s growing global appeal, an official remarked, “The presence of foreign currencies is a testimony to the increasing number of international devotees. It reflects the rising global reverence towards Tripura Sundari Devi.”

The recovery of international currency notes has also sparked discussions about the temple’s potential as a prominent international pilgrimage and tourist hub, attracting visitors not only from India but from across borders.
