Shillong, Apr 24: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma addressed the Digital Governance & Emerging Technologies Workshop on Thursday, stressing the importance of technology in driving positive change in governance and the private sector.
Sangma shared insights from his recent visit to Japan, where he observed the innovative use of technology in agriculture. He expressed interest in exploring partnerships to improve agricultural productivity in Meghalaya, aiming to implement smart and sustainable solutions that will benefit local farmers.
The Chief Minister highlighted the success of the MOTHER program, which utilizes technology to track high-risk pregnancies, resulting in timely interventions that have significantly reduced maternal and infant mortality rates in the state. He also pointed to the Early Childhood Development (ECD) mission, where technology is being leveraged to support the cognitive and holistic development of children.
Sangma further discussed the state’s use of technology to map environmental resources, such as watersheds, catchment areas, springs, and forest cover. This data is crucial for efficient water resource management.
In conclusion, Sangma emphasized the role of IT-driven governance in realizing his vision of establishing Shillong as a leading IT hub, underlining the importance of emerging technologies in improving governance and the quality of life for Meghalaya’s citizens.
