Agartala, April 28, 2025: Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Sunday reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to providing employment opportunities through a transparent recruitment process. Speaking at a ceremony held at Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhavan in Agartala, Dr. Saha announced that 16,942 individuals have been appointed to various state government departments from the financial year 2018-19 up to April 2025.
“The government is working towards a corruption-free administration with transparency and timely completion of work,” the Chief Minister said while distributing appointment letters to 479 new recruits across multiple departments.
Of the new appointments, 126 are in the Social Welfare and Social Education Department, 197 in the Public Works Department, and 156 in the State Cooperative Bank. Dr. Saha emphasized that the recruitment was entirely merit-based, noting that candidates no longer need to rely on political rallies or long waits for government jobs as was often the case in the past.
He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s emphasis on transparent governance for influencing Tripura’s recruitment policies, stating that the state government is following the Prime Minister’s directives closely.
Highlighting previous recruitment drives, Dr. Saha mentioned that on February 5 this year, Home Minister Amit Shah virtually participated in a major appointment letter distribution ceremony at Swami Vivekananda Maidan. On that day, 2,436 candidates were offered Multi-Tasking Staff (Group D) posts across 37 departments through JRBT, while 369 candidates were appointed to Pharmacist and Lab Technician posts in the Health Department. In total, 2,806 appointment letters were distributed, which Dr. Saha described as a historic event for Tripura.
Further, he added that on April 19, eleven individuals were appointed as Small Savings Inspectors through the Tripura Public Service Commission (TPSC), bringing the total number of appointments till April 2025 to 3,296. Additionally, in December 2023, 1,980 candidates were appointed to Group C posts such as Lower Division Clerk and Agriculture Assistant through JRBT.
Dr. Saha also presented statistics highlighting the improvement in Tripura’s employment scenario. Citing data from the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation and the Periodic Labour Force Survey, he noted that Tripura’s unemployment rate dropped from 10% in 2018-19—well above the national average of 5.8%—to just 1.7% in 2023-24, significantly lower than the current national average of 3.2%.
Taking a dig at the opposition, the Chief Minister said, “Those who are unaware of the state’s unemployment data try to mislead the public by making baseless claims.”
The event was attended by Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Tinku Roy, Cooperatives Minister Shuklacharan Noatia, MLA Kishore Barman, Chief Secretary Jitendra Kumar Sinha, Finance Secretary Apurba Roy, PWD Secretary Kiran Gitte, Social Welfare and Social Education Department Secretary Tapas Roy, and other senior officials.
