Manipur: Multiple Militants From Banned Outfits Arrested; Arms And Ammunition Seized

Security forces arrested multiple militants belonging to different proscribed insurgent groups in coordinated operations across Imphal East, Imphal West, and Thoubal districts, police said on Friday.

All arrests were carried out on Thursday as part of intensified counter-insurgency efforts in the state.

In Imphal East district, two cadres of the banned United National Liberation Front (UNLF–Koireng) were apprehended from Andro Parking and Khurai Konsam Leikai. The arrested individuals were identified as Loushigam Loveboy Singh (34) and Laishram Diamond Singh (19). A .32 pistol with magazine and ammunition were recovered from their possession.

In Thoubal district, police nabbed Khundrakpam Brojen Singh (53), an active cadre of the Kangleipak Communist Party (PWG), from Khangabok Part II. He was allegedly involved in extortion activities targeting schools and colleges in the valley region.

In a separate operation in Imphal West, an active member of the banned Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (SOREPA) was arrested from Khonghampat Awang Leikai.

 

Another militant, identified as Laishram Nanao Singh (39), a cadre of the proscribed People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK-Pro), was arrested from Heirok Part III in Thoubal district. A significant cache of arms and ammunition was recovered from him, including a .303 rifle, four modified single bore action rifles, 68 rounds of assorted ammunition, seven INSAS LMG magazines, a hand grenade, and camouflage clothing and gear.

Police said the operations reflect ongoing efforts to dismantle militant networks and prevent subversive activities in the region. Further investigations are underway.
