Resident doctors at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) began boycotting emergency services from 9 a.m. today, escalating their protest against a hike in postgraduate course fees.
The move comes after a five-day ultimatum to the administration expired without resolution. The strike, which began with a boycott of routine services on May 21, now includes emergency care following a unanimous decision by the Resident Doctors’ Association (RDA).
The fee for the three-year PG course was raised from ₹1 lakh to ₹3 lakhs for students admitted from October 2022. The RDA has called the hike unjust and is demanding its rollback. Despite the strike, the RDA assured that critical patients would continue to receive necessary care.
