Agartala, June 06, 2025: Tripura Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Friday said a positive trend is emerging in the state — educated youths are increasingly embracing agriculture as a lucrative and sustainable livelihood, supported by scientific methods and proactive government initiatives.

Addressing a gathering during the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan event in Phultali village under Kamalasagar constituency, Nath said, “Agriculture today is no longer just about tradition. It has become a modern, profitable profession. Many highly qualified youths are now earning lakhs through farming.”

Reiterating the state government’s commitment towards empowering farmers, the minister highlighted progress in various allied sectors such as fisheries, poultry, floriculture, and horticulture. He said scientific farming practices like free soil testing are being promoted to increase productivity. Nath also directed officials to ensure timely supply of seeds and to address logistical challenges during the cultivation season.

The event marked the eighth day of the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, a state-wide campaign that has so far reached over 1.1 lakh farmers. It witnessed active participation from agricultural scientists, senior officials, and hundreds of farmers from surrounding areas.

In a symbolic act of support, Minister Nath handed over a power tiller to local farmer Amiya Bala Das, emphasizing the government’s commitment to providing direct assistance to cultivators.

“Farmers and jawans never go on strike,” he said in an emotional appeal. “One feeds the country, the other protects it. They are the backbone of the nation. I urge every farmer — don’t let your land lie fallow. The government stands with you.”

With policies like the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, Tripura is witnessing a transformation in rural life, redefining farming as a dignified and aspirational career, especially for the educated youth.
