Six Foreign Nationals Convicted in Tripura for Passport Act Violations

Agartala, June 07, 2025. Two separate judicial proceedings in Tripura have resulted in the conviction of six foreign nationals, including five from Bangladesh and one from West Bengal, for offences under the Passport Act and the Foreigners Act.

According to an official press release from the Police Headquarters, Tripura on Friday, the Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate in Sabroom, South Tripura District, on June 6, 2025, convicted two individuals — Rubel Chandra Das (28), a resident of Sarsha Bhikari, PS Sonagachi, District Feni, Bangladesh, and Dulal Das (40) from Biswaram Bhu, Sihi Para, Purba Bardhaman, West Bengal. Both were found guilty under Section 3 of the Passport Act in conjunction with PRC (IPP)10/25 and Sabroom PS Case No.19/25, also involving Section 3 of the IPP Act and Rule 6 of the Passport Act.

Each was fined Rs. 5,000 and sentenced to 15 days of simple imprisonment in case of non-payment. The case was diligently investigated by Sub-Inspector Ramani Debbarma of Sabroom Police Station, leading to a successful conviction.

In a separate case, the Judicial Magistrate 1st Class Court No. 2 in Khowai District convicted four Bangladeshi nationals — Nagendra Debnath (47), Shyamal Debnath (35), Santi Debnath (55), and Subarna Debnath (26) — all residents of Habiganj District, Sylhet, Bangladesh.

They were convicted under Section 3 of the Passport Act read with Rule 6, Section 249(C) of the BNS, Section 14(A)/14(C) of the Foreigners Act, and Section 3 of the IPP Act in relation to PRC(WP) 31/25 and Champahour PS Case No.03/25. Each was fined Rs. 10,000 and sentenced to one month of simple imprisonment in case of default in payment. The case was investigated by SI Rajendra Reang of Champahour Police Station.
