Manipur: Six Militants Arrested, Arms And Explosives Seized In Anti-Insurgency Operations

Security forces carried out a series of coordinated anti-insurgency operations across Kamjong, Imphal East, and Thoubal districts over the weekend, leading to the arrest of six suspected militants and the recovery of firearms, explosives, and other incriminating materials.

The most notable operation occurred on June 14 near the Taret River in Kamjong District, where three suspected militants were apprehended with a cache of weapons and explosives. The arrested individuals included two operatives of the proscribed Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL)—Bidyananda Shijagurumayam (25) of Khurai Thongam Leikai, Imphal East, and Tonsana Moirangthem (27) of Moirang Thamnapokpi, Bishnupur District. The third suspect, Omikanta Nongmaithem (27), hailing from Wangjing Lamding Bazaar, Thoubal District, was identified as a member of the KCP.

Security personnel recovered a 7.65mm pistol with two live rounds, a .22 calibre pistol with three rounds, and 25 detonators. Additionally, Rs 1,840 in Indian currency, 20,000 Myanmar kyat, and two mobile phones were seized from the trio.

In subsequent operations on June 15, three more suspects were arrested in Imphal East and Thoubal districts. Near Sawombung Bridge in Imphal East, forces detained 25-year-old Takhellambam Gandhi Singh, alias Thouba, a member of KCP (MC Progressive) from Thoubal District. One mobile phone, a SIM card, and an Aadhaar card were recovered from his possession.

Later the same day, two cadres of the KCP (MFL) were arrested at Shikhong Shemai Bazar in Thoubal District. The suspects were identified as Songam Hungyo (19) of Sada Lungthar and Toijam Jamson Meitei, alias Boro (25), of Kongpal Kongkham Leikai. Two mobile phones were seized from them.
