Agartala, June 18, 2025: Tripura is poised to script a new chapter in global healthcare and women empowerment with the establishment of the world’s first fully women-run medical college and super specialty hospital. The ambitious project led by Tripura Santiniketan Medical College is underway on the Queen’s Farm on the outskirts of Agartala.
With strong support from the state government, construction of a 650-bed hospital is nearing completion, while an 1,100-bed super specialty wing is slated to be operational within the next two years.
“This will be a world-class medical institution equipped with departments like cardiology, neurology, oncology, pediatrics and gynecology, alongside modern emergency services, telemedicine and advanced research facilities,” said Malay Pit, President of Tripura Santiniketan Medical College.
He added, “Every section—administration, clinical services, financial planning, and technical operations—will be exclusively run by women entrepreneurs.”
The vision behind the project is to create more than just a healthcare facility. It aims to serve as a beacon of women’s empowerment and social transformation, elevating the role of women from beneficiaries of healthcare to key architects of the system.
Speaking on the recent recognition by the Asia Book of Records on June 14 at a ceremony held at the Press Club of India in New Delhi, Peet said, “A group of confident and self-reliant women entrepreneurs from Tripura drew national attention with their personal stories of struggle and success. Their journey is not just inspirational—it’s transformational.”
He emphasized that these women are now at the core of the college’s leadership, working towards socio-economic upliftment, and proving that bold dreams, backed by courage and vision, can reshape society.
This groundbreaking institution is expected to reduce the long-standing reliance on metro cities like Kolkata and Delhi for advanced medical education and treatment. Children and patients in Tripura will soon have access to **world-class facilities** within the state itself.
“This is not just an infrastructure project—it’s a symbol of a larger movement. Tripura Santiniketan Medical College is becoming a landmark of women’s dignity, leadership, and resilience,” said Pit.
The initiative is widely seen as a milestone not only for Tripura but for the global healthcare sector, potentially redefining how institutions are run and who leads them.
