Agartala, June 19, 2025: Tripura’s power infrastructure is undergoing a major transformation under a ₹1,800-crore modernization project, with the state government working towards adopting advanced technology that allows repairs without disrupting electricity supply, Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath said on Wednesday.

Speaking at the inauguration of a new 132 kV power substation at Amarpur in Gomati district, Minister Nath said, “We are introducing a new technology through which repair work can be done on live power lines without shutting down the supply. This is a major step towards uninterrupted power services across the state.”

The Amarpur substation, developed with assistance from the Government of India and the World Bank, is expected to improve electricity supply in several areas including Amarpur, Chelagang, Rangamati, Malvasa, Thalchhara, Debbati, Anaraibari, Kasko, and Khamariabari.

Providing a status update on the state’s power infrastructure development, Nath stated, “Out of the nine planned 132 kV substations under this project, eight have already been completed. Two more are under construction. In addition, we are replacing old transmission lines with new high-tech cables between 79 Tila in Agartala and Rukhia.”

The project is being funded jointly by the Government of India and the World Bank, and also includes contributions from the North Eastern Council (NEC), which is financing the construction of a new tower line from Ambassa to Ganda Tuisa.

Highlighting other modernization initiatives, Nath added, “We have plans to identify issues in tower lines using drone technology, manage load during peak summer, and introduce mobile substations to minimize outages during natural disasters.”

He emphasized the need for improved customer service, urging power department officials to “listen carefully to complaints and ensure timely resolution.”
