Imphal, June 23: The mortal remains of Kongbrailatpam Nganthoi Sharma, one of the two Air India crew members from Manipur who lost their lives in the Ahmedabad plane crash on June 12, were brought back to Imphal on Sunday. A large crowd gathered at the airport to pay their last respects to the departed soul.
Nganthoi Sharma’s father and elder sister, who had gone to Ahmedabad for DNA testing, accompanied her mortal remains. The atmosphere was heavy with grief as family members, friends, and well-wishers wept and offered floral tributes.
The coffin was received in a solemn ceremony attended by state officials, including Chief Secretary Prashant Kumar Singh and Director General of Police Rajiv Singh. Prominent leaders, such as MP Dr. Angomcha Bimol Akoijam and Congress MLA Okram Surajkumar, were also present to pay their last respects.
As Nganthoi Sharma’s mortal remains were taken to her native village in Thoubal district for last rites, thousands of people lined the streets of Imphal to bid farewell and pay floral tributes. Nganthoi Sharma, who hailed from Thoubal Awang Leikai, was one of the two crew members from Manipur on the ill-fated flight.
Earlier, the remains of the other crew member, Lamnunthem Singson of Kangpokpi, were returned to his hometown, where thousands gathered to mourn his passing.
