Kohima, Jun 23: Nagaland Lok Sabha MP S. Supongmeren Jamir has appealed to Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio to recognise tribal dialects as a ‘third language’ in the Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) recruitment examination.

In a letter to the Chief Minister, Jamir noted that while the state officially recognises 15 tribes and other communities, their native dialects are not included in recruitment criteria. He expressed concern that the existing GDS selection process, which is limited to English and Hindi, creates a disadvantage for local candidates.

Citing the example of Arunachal Pradesh, where tribal dialects are officially recognised in recruitment, Jamir urged the state government to adopt a similar policy. He stated that such a move would support the preservation of indigenous languages and expand employment opportunities for the youth of Nagaland.
