Assam Government To Develop Hahila Beel As Eco-Tourism Site: CM Himanta

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday visited the eco-sensitive Hahila Beel in Goalpara district following a recent eviction drive carried out by the district administration to clear illegal encroachments.

The Chief Minister walked to the site to assess the area and its surroundings firsthand. Emphasising the ecological significance of the wetland, he stated that the state government is working on a master plan to develop parts of Hahila Beel into an eco-tourism destination.

CM Sarma also informed that the Assam Cabinet has approved a proposal to declare Hahila Beel and its surrounding areas as a reserve forest in order to ensure long-term conservation.

He further added that the government is considering restoration initiatives for Hahila Beel, Urpad Beel, and Kumri Beel due to their environmental value.

During the visit, the Chief Minister interacted with families affected by the eviction and assured them that rehabilitation measures will be taken in accordance with government provisions.
