Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Friday announced a comprehensive masterplan for the preservation and restoration of the historic Chakzam Bridge in Tawang district. The announcement was made through his official Facebook page.
The 600-year-old bridge, constructed by the legendary Buddhist monk Thangtong Gyalpo, is regarded as a symbol of innovation and spiritual heritage. The new plan aims to preserve the ancient structure, restore the site, and celebrate Monpa culture.
According to Khandu, the initiative will also promote eco-tourism and support local livelihoods. “From cultural revival to community-led tourism, the vision is to make Chakzam a living bridge between the past and the future,” he stated.
The project is part of a broader effort to conserve Arunachal’s cultural heritage while fostering sustainable development in the region.
