The Imphal International Airport witnessed a dramatic simulation on Thursday as sirens blared and emergency personnel sprang into action during a high-intensity, full-scale emergency mock drill conducted under the Aerodrome Emergency Plan (AEP).
The mock exercise simulated an aircraft crash scenario involving 80 passengers, challenging responders to act swiftly and cohesively to manage the crisis. The aim was to evaluate real-time readiness and inter-agency coordination in the face of a major aviation emergency.
Over 300 trained personnel participated in the drill, which involved a wide range of agencies, including the Home Department, District Administration (Imphal West), Superintendent of Police (Imphal West and Traffic), NDRF, SDRF, Shija Hospital, RIMS, JNIMS, Indian Red Cross, Directorate of Health Services, CISF, DGCA, airlines, oil companies, and other key airport stakeholders.
Airport Director of AAI Imphal emphasized the significance of the exercise, stating:
“The safety of our passengers, crew, and staff remains our highest priority. This full-scale mock drill, conducted under the AEP framework, has once again demonstrated our collective capacity to manage crises with professionalism and coordination. We are committed to strengthening our preparedness and ensuring Imphal Airport remains resilient and responsive to all emergency situations.”
The drill was a vivid demonstration of the airport’s emergency response mechanisms and its commitment to safeguarding lives and maintaining operational integrity.
