Agartala, July 01, 2025: In a significant move to enhance religious and cultural tourism, the Tripura Tourism Department is set to develop a full-scale replica of the 51 sacred Shakti Peethas at Banduar in Udaipur, under Gomati District. The ambitious project, with a sanctioned budget of ₹97.70 crore, has received approval from the Union Ministry of Tourism under the ‘Swadesh Darshan SASKI Scheme’.

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha will lay the foundation stone of the project on July 10 at Udaipur, widely known as the ‘temple city’ of Tripura.

Ahead of the launch, Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury led an inspection at the proposed site on Tuesday. The team included Gomati District Magistrate Tarit Kanti Chakma, Director of Tourism, Additional SP, SDPO, SDM Udaipur, Executive Engineer (Tourism), agency officials, and local tehsildars.

Speaking during the visit, Minister Chowdhury expressed confidence that the project would evolve into a prominent pilgrimage and tourism destination. He said the replica complex would not only preserve and promote India’s spiritual legacy but also transform Banduar into a world-class cultural hub.

He added that the initiative is expected to generate employment for local youth, boost small-scale businesses, and expand infrastructure for hospitality and transport.

District Magistrate Chakma confirmed that the work order for the project has been issued and that construction is slated to begin soon after the foundation ceremony. He noted that the development will pave the way for Banduar to emerge as a key attraction in Tripura’s tourism map, offering visitors a blend of devotion, heritage, and architecture.
