Agartala, July 01, 2025: Tripura’s Chief Minister and Health Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Tuesday announced that the state government is actively working to recruit more doctors and promote existing medical personnel as part of its broader strategy to strengthen the healthcare system.
Addressing a gathering at Pragya Bhavan in Agartala to mark National Doctors’ Day, Dr. Saha emphasized that the government is also focusing on attracting Tripura-origin doctors who are currently practicing outside the state. “Many of them are now willing to return, and we are making efforts to bring them back with dignity,” he said.
The Chief Minister reiterated the government’s long-term vision of transforming Tripura into a healthcare hub. “We have undertaken a series of initiatives to improve healthcare infrastructure and ensure better medical services at all levels,” he said.
Dr. Saha extended warm wishes to doctors on the occasion and acknowledged their tireless contributions. “Doctors often serve under immense mental and physical pressure, yet they continue to show compassion. They deserve the highest respect from society,” he added.
He also pointed to the patient-doctor ratio as a cause of psychological stress among medical professionals and urged the public to be mindful of the challenges doctors face.
Paying tribute to Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy — whose birth and death anniversary is observed as National Doctors’ Day — Dr. Saha highlighted the significance of the day and said it is commemorated in Tripura with due respect each year.
To reduce the patient burden on GBP and IGM Hospitals in Agartala, he said steps are being taken to strengthen district hospitals and peripheral health centers.
The event was attended by senior health officials, medical college principals, and leading doctors from across the state.
