Agartala, July 02, 2025: With a focus on compassion and community service, the administration of Chandipur RD Block in Tripura’s Unakoti district has launched a heartwarming initiative, “Pratyasha” on June 30, aimed at uplifting the lives of citizens aged above 80 by ensuring they receive care, dignity, and the government support they deserve.
The programme, which has already gained appreciation through a short documentary, highlights the stories of many senior citizens—individuals who once contributed significantly to rural governance and community building, now living in quiet neglect. The film poignantly captures their journey, shedding light on the urgent need for emotional and administrative support for the elderly.
As part of the initiative, ASHA workers and local volunteers are conducting door-to-door surveys to identify elderly residents in need of assistance. These visits include simple gestures of kindness such as offering fruits as a symbol of gratitude and are designed to help bring the elders back into the fold of community life with respect and care.
“Pratyasha is not just a welfare programme—it is our moral responsibility,” said Debopriya Das, Block Development Officer of Chandipur RD Block while speaking with Northeast Today on Wednesday afternoon.
“We are committed to ensuring that all senior citizens under our jurisdiction receive pensions, medical aid, and other government services right at their doorstep. This is about making governance more humane,” Das added.
The BDO noted that the initiative also includes in-home health check-ups, banking support, and ration delivery. “This idea was deeply inspired by our local MLA and state minister Tinku Roy, who has emphasized the need to reconnect with our elders and support them in practical ways,” she said.
Local panchayat representatives and officials are actively participating in home visits to assess the condition of elderly residents and ensure they are not left behind in the development process.
In an era where rapid lifestyles often sideline the elderly, the Chandipur administration’s initiative is being seen as a model of empathetic governance one that values gratitude, respect and human connection.
