Mizoram Sports and Labour Minister Lalngihnglova Hmar has requested the Centre to set up a 30-bed Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) hospital and a dedicated football stadium in the state. The appeal was made during a meeting with Union Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports and Labour & Employment, Mansukh Mandaviya, in New Delhi.
Hmar stated that Mandaviya assured him the proposal for the ESI hospital would be given special consideration. The Union Minister also mentioned that a Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) would be identified soon to support the construction of the football stadium and other sports infrastructure in Mizoram.
In a social media update, Hmar also revealed that several sports projects have recently been approved for Mizoram:
Construction of a Multidisciplinary Indoor Stadium at a cost of ₹11.5 crore under the Khelo India scheme.
Construction of three indoor stadiums with a combined cost of ₹38.4 crore under NESIDS-OTRI.
Laying of synthetic hockey turf in Hnahthial at ₹9.89 crore under PMJVK.
Installation of artificial football turf in Thenzawl and Champhai under PMKVY, at ₹11.85 crore and ₹12.01 crore respectively.
Hmar also urged the Union Minister to consider relaxing norms specific to Mizoram to facilitate the early establishment of the ESI hospital in the state.
