Security forces arrested five militants, including two juveniles, affiliated with two different proscribed outfits from Imphal East district on Sunday, police said.
Three active cadres of the banned People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) were apprehended from Keirao Khunou. One of the arrested individuals was identified as Laishram Vishan Meitei (28), while the other two are juveniles. Authorities said the juveniles are being dealt with as per the provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act.
In a separate operation, two active cadres of the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party (PWG) — S Musha Ahamed (40) and Md. Farooque Shah (25) — were arrested from Keibi Heikak Mapan Awang Leikai. The duo was reportedly involved in extortion activities and was apprehended while attempting to collect extortion money.
Meanwhile, in an operation conducted on Saturday at Nepali Basti, Santipur area in Bishnupur district, security forces recovered a cache of arms and explosives. The seized items included one SLR rifle, one .303 rifle, two empty AK magazines, two improvised mortars, seven handsets, three ILLUM Para bombs, ammunition, one grenade, two bulletproof jackets, eight bulletproof helmets, and other materials.
