Security along the Indo-Myanmar border has been strengthened following escalating clashes between the Chinland Defence Force-Hualngoram (CDF-H) and the Chin National Defence Force (CNDF) inside Myanmar, Mizoram Home Minister Pu K Sapdanga said.
The conflict started on the night of July 5 in Khawmawi, a village near the Myanmar border. The fighting has displaced nearly 3,000 civilians who have crossed into Mizoram via the Zokhawthar border seeking refuge.
The Mizoram government is closely monitoring the situation, with continuous patrols by Mizoram Police and Assam Rifles to maintain border security. The Young Mizo Association (YMA) is providing temporary shelter for the refugees, while relief efforts are being managed by the Champhai District Deputy Commissioner.
The Home Minister expressed concern over armed groups near the border and advised new arrivals to remain within Zokhawthar. Local volunteers, student unions, civil society organizations, and Mizoram MLAs are supporting relief work.
The state government has called for peace and dialogue between the warring groups to prevent further escalation and ensure civilian safety.
