Agartala, July 10, 2025: In a cross-border love story that ended in detention, a 35-year-old woman from Bogra district of Bangladesh was arrested by the Border Security Force (BSF) on Thursday afternoon after illegally crossing into Indian territory in search of her lover.
The woman identified as Gulshana Akhtar, daughter of Gulzar Sheikh from Palsa village in Bogra reportedly entered the Konaban Harihardula area of Tripura with the help of a local broker. She came to meet Dutta Yadav, a resident of Bihar, Karnataka, whom she had met on Instagram eight months ago.
According to official sources, Yadav had travelled from Bengaluru to Tripura to meet Gulshana, who also journeyed from Bangladesh to the Indian border. However, their meeting was short-lived as they were spotted by BSF personnel and detained at the border. Both were taken to the Kamthana BSF camp and later handed over to Madhupur Police Station.
Initial investigation revealed that Yadav is already married and lives with his wife in Bengaluru. Despite knowing this, Akhtar left her family in Bangladesh and crossed the international border in hopes of a future with him.
Madhupur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Debajit Chatterjee confirmed the detentions and said that both individuals would be produced before the Bishalgarh Sub-Divisional Court on Friday.
Authorities are currently investigating the role of the broker involved in facilitating the illegal entry. The case has raised concerns over border security and cross-border human trafficking routes under the guise of personal relationships.
