Agartala, July 14, 2025: Tripura’s Tipra Motha chief Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma has called for a comprehensive revision of Tripura’s electoral rolls, similar to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process currently underway in Bihar ahead of its upcoming Assembly elections.

In a post on social media, Debbarma questioned the Election Commission’s (EC) priorities, urging that a similar scrutiny of voter rolls be undertaken in the Northeast, particularly Tripura. “The same exercise should be conducted in Northeast India – especially Tripura – and the officers must include our indigenous Tiprasa people/officers,” he stated, alongside an image of Bihar poll officials checking voter lists.

Debbarma’s remarks come even though Tripura’s next Assembly election is nearly three years away, scheduled for March 2028. However, the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) is set to face elections in 2026, raising the political stakes earlier than the state-level polls.

Criticising the lack of focus on the northeastern region, Debbarma wrote, “I fail to understand why Bihar is important and Northeast is not for the EC. Aren’t we also children of India?” He further appealed to Tipra Motha MLAs to formally approach the Election Commission to push for similar measures.

The Tipra Motha leader also reached out to the broader Northeastern community, urging them to press their respective regional parties for action. “I request all our northeastern brothers and sisters to put the same pressure on your regional parties to do the same,” he added.
